Community-Based/Individual Supports offer personalized assistance for individuals seeking to achieve greater independence and community inclusion. These supports, part of New Jersey’s Division of Developmental Disabilities program, are delivered one-on-one by trained staff either at home or in the community. Services include help with daily tasks, self-care, and social skill development based on individual goals. The hours and type of support vary according to each person’s unique needs

Recreational Activities

Individual Supports provide personalized, one-on-one assistance aimed at developing daily living skills, self-care, and personal growth. These services help individuals build independence at home and in their personal lives, preparing them for greater self-sufficiency.

Examples of Activities:

  • Attending events or classes
  • Making purchases and ordering from menus
  • Learning cooking, laundry, and travel skills
  • One-on-one tutoring and etiquette training
  • Assistance with budgeting and managing personal finances
  • Support in navigating public transportation
  • Guidance in building job-related skills
  • Help with organizing daily routines and schedules

Community-Based Supports are provided one-on-one to individuals, with a focus on helping them engage in their communities by participating in social and daily activities. These supports are tailored to enhance inclusion and independence within the broader community environment and help participants develop essential life skills like self-care, social interactions, and independence.

Examples of Activities:

  • Assistance in attending events or taking classes.
  • Support with daily tasks like shopping, cooking, and laundry.
  • Training in etiquette, travel skills, and accessing community resources.
  • One-on-one tutoring and job site assistance for self-care and social skills.
  • Participating in any fun activities the individual enjoys.

Our Recreational Activities Program is part of the Community-Based Supports service and combines one-on-one assistance with planned group activities. While individuals receive personalized support, group outings provide opportunities for socialization, personal growth, and shared experiences. These activities help build friendships, strengthen social skills, and promote community involvement in an inclusive setting.  All while benefiting from the positive dynamics of a group environment.

  • Bowling
  • Attending community festivals
  • Exploring museums
  • Classes like cooking or dance
  • Holiday celebrations
  • Shopping
  • Movies
  • Dinner
  • Yoga
